5 Ways to gently ease back into your normal routine
There’s something so sweet and soft about Easter weekend. The pretty dresses, the pastel eggs, the family meals, the sugar rush. And then, just like that, it’s over.
You blink, and suddenly the house is scattered with bits of shredded basket grass, someone’s half-eaten chocolate bunny is melting on the windowsill, and there’s still a tray of scalloped potatoes taking up space in your fridge.
And if you’re like me, you’re standing in the middle of your kitchen wondering where to even begin.
So here’s how I gently ease myself back into life after Easter, without turning it into a whole production. so here are Just a few little resets that make my home feel calm again — and help me feel like myself again too.
1. Start with the Kitchen
After any holiday, I always start in the kitchen. Not because I love dishes (I don’t), but because it’s the one space that makes the rest of the house feel manageable once it’s cleared. Therefore, I start by putting away the leftover food, rinsing out the glassware, and wiping down the counters. Just that one step always makes me breathe easier.
Sometimes I light a citrusy candle and open the window a crack if the weather’s kind. The fresh air always helps shift the energy.
2. Slowly Pack Away the Decor
I love spring colors and little bunny touches, but I also love when the house starts to feel neutral and breathable again. however, I do take my time with this part. I’ll gather up the egg garlands and the faux flowers, gently fold away any linens I pulled out just for Easter brunch, and give the shelves a quick dust as I go.
There’s no pressure to finish it all in one go. I leave my tulips out a little longer and keep one or two pieces up just because they still make me smile. the ones that stay out still speak to the season of spring.
3. Toss the Candy Guilt and Keep What You Actually Enjoy
Let’s be honest: the leftover candy can linger forever. I go through the baskets once the kids have had their fun and quietly get rid of the stuff that no one really loves. I keep a few favorites in a jar on the counter and either donate, freeze, or toss the rest.

Maybe that looks like taking a slow walk, curling up on the couch with a cup of tea and catch up on the show you are binging at the moment, or finally sitting down to read the book that’s been on your nightstand for a month. You don’t have to jump back into life full speed. You’re allowed to ease in. To savor the quiet after the storm.
